Name: Francesco Berrilli URL http://www.roma2.infn.it/berrilli/ Born: Roma, Italia, March 7, 1958 Position Held: Assistant (1989-2004) then Associate (2004 – present) Professor of Computational Physics and Experimental Astrophysics, Universita` di Roma “Tor Vergata”, Italia He received the Laurea in Fisica from University of Rome “La Sapienza” in 1983 discussing the thesis “Realization of an infrared spectrometer for the TIRGO telescope and first results of Ae/Be Herbig stars observations”. In the period 1984-1985 he worked as s/w programmer at the Societa` Generale di Informatica (Italian Ministry of Finance) as expert in relational database. From 1985 to 1989 was high school teacher of Physics. During this time he was research collaborator at the IFSI/CNR institute working on problems of star formation and astrophysical data analysis. In 1989 he moved to the University of Roma “Tor Vergata” Solar and Space Physics Group as assistant then associate professor. Research Interests: the current central interest is the dynamics of solar photosphere, particularly the convective regime present in the outer layers of the sun. This topic is tackled by means of experimental techniques, images analysis procedures and numerical simulations. · Experimental techniques: realization of solar image acquisition systems based on CCD and CMOS detectors for panoramic Fabry-Pèrot based monochromators (IPM@THEMIS and IBIS@DST/NSO) and achievement of observational campaigns at various ground-based telescope often coordinate with spatial instrumentation. · Image analysis: realization of automatic procedure of image segmentation (dynamic and optimal threshold, Medial Axis Transform, skeleton, spatial operators) and investigation of statistical tools for pattern analysis. · Numerical simulation: realization of dynamical models of passive magnetic advection.
