Attualmente l’attività di ricerca è focalizzata on Cloud/Edge Computing, IoT, Software Defined Networks (SDN) and Information-Centric-Network (ICN). È editor associato di IEEE Transactions on Network and Service Management.

Andrea Detti ha coordinato e partecipato a diversi progetti internazionali competitivi, alcuni dei quali sono: EU H2020  BONVOYAGE 2015/2017 (Federated multimotal Intelligent Transport Systems, project coordinator since 2017), EU-JP ICN2020 2017/2019 (WP leader, ICN services for cloud applications), EU-JP FP7 GreenICN 2013/2015 (Energy Efficient ICN, WP leader), EU FP7 2013/2014 CONFINE (coordinator of two proposals admitted to the funding within the first and second open-call, large scale wireless testbed platforms), EU FP7 2012/2013 OFELIA (ICN over SDN).
