RESEARCH TOPICS

She spendsthe early years of her research, during the PhD, in studying new techniques of analysis, prediction, and estimation of data using fuzzy logic systems, investigating both theoretical aspects with particular reference to the approximation of functions, and new applications in the context of signal generators, noise power estimation in digital images, models of GaAs active devices. She also investigates the use of type-2 fuzzy logic systems for fog prediction in time series forecasting. Recently, she applies type-2 fuzzy logic systems to Respiratory motion prediction.

Afterher PhD program, her research interests are focused more on the development of algorithm for digital image processing. Initially, she signes a new algorithm for estimating the power of noise in not-  stationary noisy signal; then, she focuses on methods for image decomposition using  undecimated wavelet transform for the denoising and the enhancement of digital images in the medical field, following the result of studies of Mallat.

As amember of the Italian scientific field “Electrical and Electronic Measurements“ she also conducted some research in the field of the development of new methodologies for the representation of uncertainty in measurement using fuzzy logic, and, at present, she is investigating the possibility of proposing a novel and more general definition of ‘sensitivity’ in a metrological context.

Since 2005,her research interests are in the analysis of mammographic images and in the development of a CAD system for the automatic identification and characterization of breast cancer in mammographic images. She has developed a new system for the identification of tumors, and she is studying along with her collaborators, new indices for the characterization of the masses identified to support the diagnosis. Her research group is developing a software platform to acquire, enhance, mark, and identify mammographic images, for clinicians.

In 2010she developes a new classification system based on fuzzy logic, applied to the classification of calcifications and to the automatic extraction of rules for the texture segmentation of HRCT lung images.

Since 2011, she also deals with automatic recognition of emotions from the analysis of prosodic features of emotional speech and the analysis of facial expressions on the faces, for applications in neuropsychology.
