Angelo Spena, nato a Roma il 6.2.1952, laurea in Ingegneria Meccanica con lode e dignità di stampa nel 1975 presso l’Università La Sapienza, è dal 1990 Professore Ordinario di Fisica Tecnica Ambientale, settore scientifico-disciplinare Ing-Ind/11 presso il Dipartimento di Ingegneria dell’Impresa nell’Università di Roma Tor Vergata. E’ stato docente ufficiale anche presso le Università di Roma La Sapienza in qualità di Professore Associato dal 1987 al 1990, e di Perugia in qualità di Professore Straordinario dal 1990 al 1993. E’ stato anche docente in master Luiss.
E’ autore di oltre 150 lavori scientifici nei campi del Trasferimento di Calore, Energetica, Energia solare e Fonti rinnovabili, Controllo Ambientale e Termofisica dell'edificio, Acustica e illuminotecnica, Impianti termotecnici, elettrici e di condizionamento.
Ha curato per la Enciclopedia Italiana Treccani le voci "Ingegneria Ambientale" (2007) e "Gestione del Territorio" (2015).
Dal 2000 al 2010 è stato Presidente dei Corsi di Laurea e Laurea Specialistica in Ingegneria per l’Ambiente e il Territorio dell’Università di Tor Vergata.
Direttore dei laboratori di Fisica Tecnica Ambientale, dal 2007 è Coordinatore della sezione in Ingegneria delle Fonti di Energia del Dottorato in Ingegneria dell'Impresa dell’Università di Tor Vergata.
Dal 2009 al 2012 è stato coordinatore europeo del progetto Intelligent Energy - eaci “USE Efficiency” sulla efficienza energetica nel terziario (9 Università europee di 10 paesi), premiato con la nomination agli Oscar europei dell’energia sostenibile (Eusew, Bruxelles) nel giugno 2013.

Angelo Spena, born in Rome in 1952, Mechanical Engineer, since 1990 is Full Professor of Technical Physics at the Enterprise Engineering Department of the University of Roma Tor Vergata. He was also professor in the Universities of Roma La Sapienza and of Perugia, and in Governmental Schools on Renewables and Energy Management.
He's author of more than 150 scientific papers on Heat Transfer, Solar and Renewable Energy Sources, Environmental Comfort&Building Thermophysics, Acoustics, Energy Power Stations and HVAC Plants.
He's author of the entries "Environmental Engineering" (2007) and "Land Management" (2015) for the Enciclopedia Italiana Treccani.
From 2000 to 2010 he’s been Dean of the Courses of Degree on Environmental and Territorial Engineering. Professor Spena also operate since 1975 as consulting engineer in the field of energy and plants.
He was Member of the EU Commission for Solar Energy Storage Standards (1982-1984), of the UNCTAD Commission of the UN for Energy and Environment (1986-87), of the Scientific Consulting Panel of the Environmental Italian Ministry (1987-1989), of the National Council of Public Works for Acoustic Impact and Energy Certification Standards.
In Italy, he was also Responsible for the research on Italian Navy submarines long-term inner comfort&health, and for plants safety of underground Governmental sites and laboratories.
For the decade 1997-2006, and during 2013, he’s been Energy Manager of the University of Tor Vergata.
Present research main interests are in the field of thermal and PV solar systems, of climatic data acquisition and simulation, of building energy management and savings, of severe inner environmental comfort and safety problems, and of CCS technical and management impacts.
Presently he is teacher of Renewables, HVAC Plants Design, and Energy Management. He is also Director of the section "Energy Sources Engineering" of the Doctorate on Enterprise Engineering, and of the Environmental Technical Physics Laboratories (FTALab) and of the CHOSE ESTER Test Facility of the University of Tor Vergata.
In the year 2010 he’s been coordinator and scientific responsible of the integrated plan of sustainable safety and energy actions in the Archaeological area of Pompei in Italy. Since January, 2011 his team is involved in the National Campaign for measuring Italian solar radiation and spectral data.
From June, 2009 to January, 2012 he coordinated the international Research Group on USE Efficiency by the European Agency for Competitiveness and Innovation, which involved 9 Universities and 4 Laboratories of 10 European Nations. Use Efficiency was nominated project at the European Awards on Sustainability, held in Bruxelles late June, 2013.
From 2011 to 2014 he's been member of the Search Committee of the Italian Government for the selection of the chairmen of the italian research Boards.
Since 2014 he's in charge as plant expert member of the Committee for the commissioning of the Mose system, devoted to guard Venice from high-waters.
