Formazione e posizioni accademiche:

Laureato in Scienze Politiche presso l’Università degli Studi Roma Tre (voto 110/110 e lode) nel 2005 con una tesi in economia dello sviluppo al termine di una ricerca all’estero (Mozambico) finanziata da una borsa di studio.

Dopo la laurea, la carriera accademica è proseguita con un Dottorato di Ricerca in Educazione alla Salute presso l’Università degli Studi di Perugia (anni 2008-2010) e diversi progetti di ricerca come economista sanitario in gruppi di ricerca nazionali e internazionali.

Dal 2017 sono ricercatore presso il Dipartimento di Biomedicina e Prevenzione dell’Università di Tor Vergata di Roma, dove svolgo attività di ricerca e insegnamento in economia sanitaria.

Nel 2021 ho conseguito un Master of Science (II livello) in Public Health (Global Health) con Distinction (75/100) presso il King’s College di Londra.

 

Da marzo 2022 sono Ricercatore tipo B presso il Dipartimento di Medicina dei Sistemi dell’Università di Roma Tor Vergata.

Dal 2017 sono ricercatore presso il Dipartimento di Biomedicina e Prevenzione dell’Università di Tor Vergata di Roma, dove svolgo attività di ricerca e insegnamento in economia sanitaria. Mi sono occupato di vari argomenti, come i bisogni di salute della popolazione anziana e l’efficienza economica dei programmi di sanità pubblica in contesti a risorse limitate.

Premi e finanziamenti:

Ho ricoperto il ruolo di investigatore principale in gruppi di ricerca in Italia e all’estero, specialmente in Africa sub-sahariana (Malawi, Mozambico e Kenya), acquisendo una vasta esperienza nel campo della ricerca scientifica, soprattutto nel settore della sanità pubblica e dell’economia sanitaria.

 

Attualmente collaboro con ricercatori dell’Istituto Superiore di Sanità e della Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna per ricerche internazionali finanziate dall’Agenzia Italiana per la Cooperazione allo Sviluppo (AICS) con il ruolo di investigatore principale in due progetti:

 

• “CHAO (Comorbidities in HIV / AIDS Outpatients): una ricerca epidemiologica per ridurre la mortalità nei pazienti con HIV in Kenya” finanziato dal Ministero degli Affari Esteri italiano tramite l’Agenzia Italiana per la Cooperazione allo Sviluppo (AICS) (codice progetto AID 012168/02/1) all’interno del programma Global Fund 5% volto a sostenere gli impegni del fondo globale in Africa. Il progetto è stato finanziato a seguito di un bando competitivo.

 

Ho anche partecipato ai seguenti progetti di ricerca:

 

• WeMen! Migliorare l’accesso delle donne al sistema sanitario attraverso l’inclusione degli uomini” in collaborazione con la Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna che si svolge in Malawi finanziato dal Ministero degli Affari Esteri italiano tramite l’Agenzia Italiana per la Cooperazione allo Sviluppo (AICS) (codice progetto AID 011587.08.5) all’interno del programma Global Fund 5% volto a sostenere gli impegni del Global Fund in Africa. Il progetto è stato finanziato a seguito di un bando competitivo.

• Safe Milk for African Children (SMAC) study: uno studio osservazionale condotto in Malawi volto a valutare la sicurezza e la farmacocinetica della somministrazione di terapia antiretrovirale (ART) alle donne in allattamento. Lo studio è stato condotto nell’ambito del programma Drug Resource Enhancement against AIDS and Malnutrition (DREAM) concepito e gestito dalla Comunità di Sant’Egidio (Roma, Italia), una ONG religiosa italiana, e in collaborazione con un team di ricercatori dell’Istituto Superiore di Sanità italiano.

• Gruppo di ricerca guidato da un team dell’Istituto Superiore di Sanità nell’ambito del progetto di ricerca denominato “Prevenzione della trasmissione materno-infantile dell’HIV in Malawi: analisi dell’adesione materna ai programmi e salute infantile nel primo anno dopo la nascita” che si svolge in Malawi ed è finanziato dal Ministero degli Affari Esteri italiano tramite l’Agenzia Italiana per la Cooperazione allo Sviluppo (AICS) (codice progetto AID 011141/03/04) all’interno del programma Global Fund 5% volto a sostenere gli impegni del fondo globale in Africa. Il progetto è stato finanziato a seguito di un bando competitivo.

• Studio “IDEA-TB study (Innovative Diagnostic Enhancement Against TB)” uno studio prospettico volto a valutare il possibile ruolo dell’HS-CRP per la diagnosi di TB e a previsione della mortalità precoce nei pazienti HIV-positivi in Kenya in collaborazione con un gruppo di ricerca dell’Istituto Superiore di Sanità. Lo studio è stato finanziato dal Ministero degli Affari Esteri italiano tramite l’Agenzia Italiana per la Cooperazione allo Sviluppo (AICS) all’interno del programma Global Fund 5% volto a sostenere gli impegni del fondo globale in Africa. Il progetto è stato finanziato a seguito di un bando competitivo.

 

• Studio in collaborazione con l’Istituto Superiore di Sanità. Gli obiettivi principali dello studio erano definire la prevalenza locale della malattia tubercolare (utilizzando test molecolari approvati dall’OMS che valutano anche la resistenza alla rifampicina) tra i soggetti HIV-positivi mai trattati con ART, la prevalenza della malattia subclinica nei pazienti positivi alla tubercolosi e il valore aggiunto dell’inclusione di un test dell’espettorato Xpert ripetuto e di un test dell’urina LAM negli algoritmi diagnostici per la tubercolosi.

I have held the role of principal investigator in research groups in Italy and abroad, especially in sub-Saharan Africa (Malawi, Mozambique and Kenya) gaining extensive experience in the field of scientific research, especially in the field of public health and in health economics.

The project was funded following a competitive tender.

·      Study "IDEA-TB study (Innovative Diagnostic Enhancement Against TB)", a prospective study aimed at evaluating the possible role of HS-CRP for TB diagnosis and the prediction of early mortality in HIV-positive patients in Kenya, in collaboration with a research group of the Istituto Superiore di Sanità. The study was funded by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs through the Italian Development Cooperation Agency (AICS) within the Global Fund 5% program aimed at supporting the global fund's commitments in Africa. The project was funded following a competitive tender.

·      Study in collaboration with the National Institute of Health. The main objectives of the study were to define the local prevalence of tuberculous disease (using WHO-approved molecular tests that also evaluate resistance to rifampicin) among HIV-positive subjects never treated with ART, the prevalence of subclinical disease in tuberculosis-positive patients and the added value of including an Xpert repeat sputum test and a urine LAM test in the diagnostic algorithms for tuberculosis
