Cecilia Panti è docente di Storia della filosofia medievale presso l’Università di Roma Tor Vergata. In servizio dal 2008 prima come ricercatrice poi come professore associato, ha ottenuto l’abilitazione scientifica di prima fascia per i settori di Storia della filosofia e di Logica, storia e filosofia della scienza; è membro del collegio docenti del Dottorato in Filosofia presso la stessa Università e direttore del corso di formazione per insegnanti per la classe A019 Filosofia e Storia.
I suoi ambiti di ricerca riguardano la filosofia naturale, la teoria musicale, l’ottica e le discipline matematiche in età medievale e rinascimentale, con interesse specifico verso le tradizioni testuali e la filologia. Ha dedicato numerosi studi e articoli, fra gli altri, ad Agostino, Boezio, Ildegarda di Bingen, Ugo di San Vittore, Roberto Grossatesta, Ruggero Bacone, Cusano, nonché alla tradizione scientifica francescana. Le sue pubblicazioni includono edizioni critiche di scritti di Grossatesta (Moti, virtù e motori celesti, Firenze 2001; La luce, Pisa 2011), l’edizione e traduzione del Dizionario di musica di Giovanni Tinctoris (Firenze 2004) e l’ampia monografia Filosofia della musica. Tarda antichità e medioevo (Roma, 2008). Pubblicazioni più recenti comprendono la curatela del numero monografico Latin and Arabic Theory of Perspective della rivista «Micrologus» 29 (2021), e "Robert Grosseteste and Aristotelianism" (REFIME 2023).
Laureatasi in Filosofia presso l’Università di Siena (1988) ha ottenuto il Master of Arts presso il Pontifical Institute of Mediaeval Studies di Toronto (1990), il dottorato in Filologia mediolatina all’Università di Firenze (1994), borse di studio dottorali e post-dottorali, borse di ricerca ‘Ezio Franceschini’ (1991) e ‘Fondazione Umberto Micheli’ (2006-2007) e un assegno quadriennale di ricerca presso l’Università di Siena (2000-2004). Nel 2016-2017 è stata Visiting Senior Associate presso il Pembroke College (Oxford University). Ha partecipato a progetti di ricerca nazionali (PRIN 2003, 2005, 2012), ad alcuni progetti locali presso l’università di Siena e a due progetti internazionali, quale membro del core investigative team del AHRC Major Grant Project «Interdisciplinary Readings of Medieval Science: Robert Grosseteste (c.1170-1253)» (Universities of Oxford and Durham 2015-2019), e quale co-investigator del British Academy Leverhulme Research Grant «Lorenzo Ghiberti’s 3rd Commentary: A Study of Perspectiva in 15th Century Florence» (University of Huddersfield 2015-2018). Attualmente è PI del progetto PRIN 2022 TeLPh Teaching and Learning Philosophy in the Regnum Italiae (1250-1450). Ha partecipato a numerosi convegni e congressi, nazionali e internazionali, anche quale membro di comitati scientifici e organizzativi. È co-direttore della serie «Global Perspectives on the History of Natural Philosophy» (Routledge) e membro del comitato scientifico delle riviste «Micrologus», «Studi medievali», «REFIME-Revista Española de Filosofía Medieval», nonché della collana «Micrologus Libray» e dal 2016 al 2020 della serie «The Scientific Works of Robert Grosseteste».
Socia ordinaria della SISMEL, della SIEPM e della SISPM, di cui è stata membro del consiglio direttivo negli anni 2015-2021 e di cui è tesoriere dal 2018, è inoltre membro fondatore della RBRS (Roger Bacon Research Society). Dal 2023 è membro del Consiglio scientifico della Fondazione CISAM (Spoleto), di cui è anche, dal 2024, membro del Consiglio di Amministrazione.
Cecilia Panti is a professor of Medieval Philosophy at the University of Rome Tor Vergata. She has been serving since 2008, first as a researcher and then as an associate professor. She has obtained first-class scientific qualification (abilitazione scientifica di prima fascia) in the fields of History of Philosophy and Logic, History, and Philosophy of Science. She is a member of the PhD Faculty in Philosophy at the same university and director of the training course for teachers for the A019 Philosophy and History class.
Her research areas include natural philosophy, music theory, optics, and mathematical disciplines in the medieval and Renaissance periods, with a specific interest in textual traditions and philology. She has dedicated numerous studies and articles, among others, to Augustine, Boethius, Hildegard of Bingen, Hugh of Saint Victor, Robert Grosseteste, Roger Bacon, and Nicholas of Cusa, as well as the Franciscan scientific tradition. Her publications include critical editions of Grosseteste's writings ("Motions, Virtues, and Celestial Motors", Florence 2001; "The Light," Pisa 2011), the edition and translation of Giovanni Tinctoris's "Dictionary of Music" (Florence 2004), and the extensive monograph "Philosophy of Music. Late Antiquity and the Middle Ages" (Rome, 2008). Recent publications include editing the monographic issue "Latin and Arabic Theory of Perspective" of the journal "Micrologus" 29 (2021) and "Robert Grosseteste and Aristotelianism" (REFIME 2023).

An ordinary member of SISMEL, SIEPM, and SISPM, of which she was a board member from 2015-2021 and treasurer since 2018, she is also a founding member of the RBRS (Roger Bacon Research Society). Since 2023, she has been a member of the Scientific Council of the CISAM Foundation (Spoleto), and from 2024, a member of its Administrative Board.
